Basic Info
Bio
A character account for Raine at Fort Weyr MUSH.

Logs featuring Raine.

Raine

Round-faced and befreckled, Raine suffers from "cute." She's not very pretty, with a pale complexion speckled over her nose and the apples of her cheeks by liberal freckles undoubtedly acquired during childhood, and her overall roundness enunciates the childishness of her looks. Although not actually overweight, she's short - five feet and an inch - with a buttery figure, none of the litheness of a true beauty.

Raine's wavy brown hair is trimmed to a chin-length bob, reaching a jaw that lacks definition. Her eyes are clearly her most winning features, bottle-green and large with a slight tilt to them common more among Istans and Bollians. Unfortunately, her very plain grays and browns for attire don't do much to draw out the striking color of her eyes.

Fedayth

Soft, buttery gold is this queen dragon -- a warm glaze shining over her curvaceous form. She's plump as dragons go, with few angles and lots of curves occupying her ample figure, not exactly fat but soft and cushy around the edges. Even her face lacks the wedged angularity of most dragons, possessing a fullness to her cheeks that looks almost puffy. In her chubby face, Fedayth's rainbow-faceted eyes seem unusually large and doe-like. It's as if, beneath the sheer, liquid gold of her hide, a layer of baby fat coats her entire body. Even her talons seem somehow softened and blunted, themselves a creamier shade than the rest of her hide -- hardly the sharply curving menaces that many dragons display.

At 3 turns, 0 months, 24 days old, Fedayth measures 25 feet from nose to tail and has a wingpsan of 43.75 feet.

A little history.

Raine was born and raised at Fort Weyr. Her parentage is something of a mystery, though those who have been at Fort long enough might remember that she was effectively abandoned in Fort's lower caverns shortly after her mother gave birth. There were whispers at the time of some sordid doings involving jewels and Corinne and Raine's mother, but the details have never been entirely public.

Fortunately, Raine was adopted by Kempri -- an elderly woman who had raised her own children already but took a liking to the little girl. She spent her youth and adolescence in the lower caverns of the Weyr, playing with children her own age, attending lessons with the Weyrharper, learning a little of cooking and sewing. When she was old enough, she -- like Kempri -- began working in the Weyr's grain fields. Though some commented that it seemed a waste of a bright young woman to put her to work in the fields, she seemed happy enough there. She didn't have enough natural talent to shine to the degree that a woman would need to join a craft, so she was happily resigned to her life as a field worker for the Weyr.

When Serinath clutched a gold in turn 437, Raine took matters into her own hands to make her way on to the Sands. Many, many young women from the Weyr -- especially the pretty ones -- were given their chance to stand for the gold egg. Raine waited to be asked herself, but the hatching drew nearer and no one had approached her about it. With only a few days left, she seized the chance for herself, approaching Weyrlingmaster J'del to demand her right as weyrfolk to stand.

Needless to say, Raine Impressed to gold Fedayth. Both were publicly frustrated as weyrlings. J'del left her teaching largely to Corinne, as was traditional, and Corinne had little interest in training her "replacement." By the time Fedayth was just over a year old, she was taught to go between, and Raine was given orders the very same day -- prepare for departure and transfer to Benden Weyr. Though she surely should have seen it coming, she was angry and let it be known.

Two turns at Benden, now, where few at Fort can keep track of Raine and Fedayth except to know that the queen has yet to rise.
